The BiH Commission to Preserve National Monuments organized an awards ceremony for winners of the contest “My Bosnia and Herzegovina, My Heritage”, which complimented the reconstruction project of the Red Cross Society building of Bosnia and Herzegovina, funded through the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation. The aim of the campaign was for students to creatively illustrate through drawings what BiH heritage means to them and to explore the idea of a shared heritage. The campaign began in the spring of last year in elementary schools in Sarajevo with more than 250 students participating.
The campaign “My Bosnia and Herzegovina, My Heritage” has been successfully implemented since 2006 by the Commission to Preservation National Monuments, in cooperation with the US Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The primary objectives of the project are to raise the awareness of the children about the importance of the cultural and historical heritage and to emphasize the richness and uniqueness of the BiH tradition and culture.
Until today, more than 10,000 elementary school students from eighty schools and twenty BiH cities took part in the project. Through project activities, such as lectures in schools and sites of national monuments, children acquire and develop knowledge of cultural heritage, focusing on architecture, art, crafts, oral arts, etc.
