Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES)

American Councils is proud to announce an open competition for the YES high school student exchange program. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, YES is a fully funded (FREE) opportunity for high school students in Bosnia and Herzegovina to spend an academic year in the United States.  Finalists will live with a host family and attend a high school in the United States beginning in the Fall of 2020.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be:

  • Currently enrolled in the first or second year of high school;
  • A citizen of BiH;
  • Proficient in the English language;
  • Born between January 1, 2003 and July 15, 2005.
  • Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply for YES and must be enrolled in secondary school in the Fall of 2019 and be born between February 15, 2002 and July 15, 2005.

Students will participate in an essay competition on the day of registration.

To the registration, students should bring:

  • birth certificate, passport or student ID;
  • a black ink pen.

Registration and the essay competition will take place on the following dates and times at the following locations:

  • From 9 am-2 pm in Banja Luka on October 15, 2019 at Katolički školski centar “Bl. Ivan Merz” in Banja Luka
  • From 9 am-2 pm in Tuzla on October 16, 2019 at at JU Narodna i univerzitetska biblioteka “Derviš Sušić” Tuzla
  • From 9 am-2 pm in Mostar on October 18, 2019 at Centar za kulturu Mostar
  • From 9 am-2 pm in Sarajevo on October 19, 2019 at JU Druga gimnazija Sarajevo
