Processing time for a full validity U.S. passport is approximately 2 weeks. You will receive an email once your new passport has arrived at the U.S. Embassy.
Instead of pick-up in person, you have the option to have your new passport returned to you by courier.
If you are also applying for a Passport Card, you should note that they can take up to approximately 6 weeks to process.
Processing time for an emergency passport is about one business day. Most emergency passports can be picked up either the same or the following business day.
U.S. citizens who apply for a passport at the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo may have their new U.S. passport returned to their address in Bosnia and Herzegovina using a private courier shipping service. To do so, you’ll need to inform the officer at your passport appointment if you wish to have your newly issued passport returned to you by a private courier.
If you choose this option, the officer will cancel your old passport at the time of your appointment if it is not already expired. Once you receive the passport pick-up notification email from the Embassy, you’ll need to follow one of the attached instructions, depending on the company you choose: DHL or UPS. Once you complete the instructions provided by the courier company in the instructions below, email your shipping label to the Embassy in response to the passport pick-up notification email.
Receiving your passport by Courier Service
You will need to visit DHL office to arrange shipment of your visa application/delivery of your passport at the price of 25.00 KM per shipment.
Members of a family living in the same household may send their visa applications/receive their passports in one shipment at the price of 25.00 KM.
