Remarks at 23rd Annual Project Citizen Final

September 30, 2020

On behalf of the US Embassy, it’s a pleasure to salute everyone participating in and supporting the 23rd Annual Project Citizen Finals.

The U.S. Embassy has supported civic education in BiH with the Civitas team for more than two decades.

Our goal is inspiring young people across BiH to work for positive change in their communities.

America recently lost a Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

She was a tireless advocate of justice and equality.

She said, “Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”

You and more than 30,000 students joined Project Citizen this year, to fight for things that you care about.

And you worked to get students, community members, and in some cases government authorities to join you.

That is the kind of leadership Justice Ginsburg was talking about.

The United States supports your efforts to strengthen democracy in BiH and help your country move forward.

Project Citizen is just a beginning.

We hope you will continue your work as active citizens.

It won’t be easy, but together, it will be easier.

Sretno i Hvala svima.
