Today in Travnik, Ambassador Murphy announced an award of $75,000 to the Travnik Regional Museum through the U.S. Department of State’s Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) to restore and preserve the beautiful Stari Grad Fortress. This ACFP awards underscores the United States’ commitment to helping BiH citizens preserve and restore historically and culturally significant monuments. Since 2001, the United States has supported 23 projects in BiH, totaling over $2.4 million, to protect the important shared history and culture of the people of BiH.
In his remarks, ambassador Murphy said: “This site and other cultural heritage sites across the country are powerful examples of the long and rich history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a history shaped by the interactions of different peoples and different cultures that produced something unique in the heart of the Western Balkans and in Europe. That, I think, should be a source of pride for all of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s citizens. Bosnia and Herzegovina’s history, despite what certain politicians want you to believe, belongs to all its citizens whatever their ethnic heritage and however they identify themselves.”
