The U.S. Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina notes the judgment of the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). The United States supports the critically important work of the ICTY and respects its ruling.
Today’s verdict in the case of Prlic et al. is an important step toward holding to account those individuals responsible for the tremendous suffering of the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We hope that it can provide some sense of justice and closure to the victims and their families.
We urge all parties to respect the court’s verdict, and rededicate themselves to the continued reconciliation and peaceful coexistence essential to the future of a stable, secure Bosnia and Herzegovina that safeguards the rights of all its citizens.
