United States, through the Humanitarian Mine Action program (HMA), donated the equipment to the Armed Forces of Bosnia-Herzegovina Demining Battalion – equipment which will be used to help the Armed Forces of Bosnia-Herzegovina make local communities in this country safer. Working with our local partners such as the Bosnia-Herzegovina Mine Action Center, Civil Protection units, the International Trust Fund, and in particular with the Armed Forces of Bosnia-Herzegovina, the United States continues to support the effort to rid Bosnia-Herzegovina from the scourge of landmines and unexploded ordinance.  These remnants of war are an enduring legacy of the Bosnian conflict which continue to endanger the lives of innocent civilians. Speaking at the official handover ceremony, Ambassador Cormack said: “The Armed Forces continue to impress me with their example of service to Bosnia-Herzegovina.  Just last year, they performed nearly 30% of the annual clearance of suspected mine affected areas – more than any other single organization or company involved in the demining effort. We’re happy to support and enhance their efforts through donations of equipment and training. This donation of equipment, valued at nearly $65 thousand dollars, is a continuation of our desire to expand the Armed Forces’ capabilities. Last fall, the HMA program provided an additional $150,000 worth of state-of-the-art demining equipment to the Armed Forces that will increase their capacity, precision and safety.”
